Garett grew up in the small New England town of Hollis, New Hampshire. After a typical childhood filled with soccer, baseball and basketball, Garett tried his hand at musical theatre when he was recruited to play an "orphan" in a community theatre production of Oliver. He then turned his focus from competitive sports to theatre.
After his sophomore year of high school, Garett talked his parents into letting him be home schooled in order to focus more intensely on his dancing, singing and acting training. Being home schooled also gave him the flexibility to perform in many regional and community theatre productions throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Garett spent his summers training at Ann Reinking's Broadway Theatre Project, The American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive and STEPS on Broadway in NYC.
At age 18, after graduating high school, Garett joined the cast of the 1st National Tour of Oklahoma! Upon completing the tour, he enrolled in the musical theatre program at the University of Cincinnati -- Conservatory of Music. Garett earned his equity card the summer after his freshman year in North Shore Music Theatre's production of Singin in the Rain. He spent the rest of his summer breaks performing in North Shore's productions of Fame, Cinderella, and High School Musical, as well as Sacramento Music Circus' productions of Gypsy, My Fair Lady, and Hairspray. Garett graduated from CCM with a BFA in Musical Theatre in April, 2009.
Garett's first big gig came when he booked "Neleus" in the North American Tour of Disney's Mary Poppins. After a year on the road, Garett made his Broadway debut in the same role, and then in Disney's NEWSIES, playing the role of "Albert" and understudying the roles of "Davey" and "Crutchie."
Garett can currently be seen on Broadway in Matilda.
